swollen glands
Puffy lymph nodes
Swollen glands are lymph nodes that have enlarged, usually in response to infection.
The glands most often noticed are in the neck, armpits, or groin: The doctor felt for swollen glands under her jaw.
Despite the name, lymph nodes aren't technically glands—they're part of the immune system, filtering harmful substances and producing white blood cells to fight disease.
