thunderstick
Loud striking weapon
Thunderstick is a noise-making device used by sports fans, consisting of two inflatable plastic tubes that are banged together to create a loud clapping sound.
They're distributed at stadiums and arenas, often branded with team logos, and produce a distinctive rumbling roar when thousands are used simultaneously.
The crowd's thundersticks made it impossible to hear the announcer.
The term can also refer informally to a gun or, in some Indigenous contexts, to a ceremonial staff or weapon associated with thunder spirits.
