breechloader
Chamber-fed rifle type
A breechloader is a firearm that loads from the rear of the barrel rather than the muzzle.
This design, which became standard in the mid-19th century, allows faster reloading and the ability to load while prone or behind cover: The introduction of breechloaders transformed infantry tactics.
