theatrical lighting
Drama's visual atmosphere
Theatrical lighting is the art and craft of illuminating stage performances.
It encompasses the equipment, techniques, and design choices that create mood, direct audience attention, and establish time and place.
Beyond theater, the term describes any dramatic lighting effect: The restaurant used theatrical lighting to create intimacy.
A theatrical lighting designer shapes how audiences perceive everything from actors' faces to emotional tone.
