front of house

Where guests enter

Front of house refers to the parts of a business that customers see and interact with, as opposed to behind-the-scenes operations.

In restaurants, front of house includes the dining room, host stand, and bar—anywhere guests are served: She moved from the kitchen to front of house.

In theaters, it's the lobby, box office, and auditorium, distinct from backstage areas.

Often abbreviated FOH.
