tam o'shanter
Woolen Scottish headwear
A tam o'shanter is a round, flat woolen cap of Scottish origin, typically featuring a tight headband and a loose, full crown often topped with a pompom.
Named after the title character in Robert Burns's 1790 poem, it became associated with Scottish Highland dress and is still worn as part of traditional Scottish attire or military uniforms.
The shortened form tam refers to any similar soft, brimless cap.
She wore a red tam o'shanter tilted jauntily to one side.
