talkbox

Tube-to-mouth effect

A talkbox is an effects device that sends sound from an instrument—usually an electric guitar or synthesizer—through a tube into the musician's mouth, where shaping the mouth forms vowel-like sounds and words.

The mouth becomes a resonant chamber, creating the illusion of a singing instrument.

Popularized in funk and rock: Peter Frampton's talkbox solo on "Do You Feel Like We Do".
