tailgaters
Bumper-crowding drivers
Tailgaters are drivers who follow too closely behind other vehicles, leaving insufficient stopping distance.
The term also refers to people who gather in parking lots before sporting events, eating and drinking from the open tailgates of trucks or hatchbacks: The tailgaters had their grills going hours before kickoff.
Both senses derive from tailgate—the hinged rear door of a vehicle.
