symbiote
Mutual benefit organism
A symbiote is an organism that lives in close physical association with another organism, typically to the benefit of both.
The term gained widespread currency through comic books and science fiction, where symbiotes are often depicted as alien life forms that bond with human hosts, sometimes parasitically.
In scientific contexts, the preferred term is symbiont.
The alien symbiote granted its host superhuman abilities.
