superuser

System access god

A superuser is someone with elevated access privileges on a computer system, able to modify settings, install software, and perform administrative tasks that ordinary users cannot.

The term originated in Unix systems, where the superuser account (called "root") has unrestricted access to all commands and files.

System administrators often work as superusers to maintain and troubleshoot systems.

You'll need superuser privileges to edit that configuration file.
