liminal
Neither here nor there
Liminal describes the quality of being at a threshold or boundary, particularly a transitional state between two conditions.
The word comes from the Latin for threshold, and it captures moments or spaces that are neither fully one thing nor another.
A liminal space might be a hallway, airport terminal, or empty parking lot—places designed for passing through rather than staying.
Liminal experiences include twilight, adolescence, or the moment between waking and sleep, when familiar categories feel suspended.
