submodule

Module within module

A submodule is a module contained within a larger module.

In programming, submodules organize code hierarchically—a graphics library might have submodules for rendering, animation, and color management.

In version control systems like Git, a submodule is a repository embedded inside another repository, allowing projects to include external dependencies while tracking them separately: The project uses several submodules for third-party libraries.
