sub-Arctic

Below the Arctic

Sub-Arctic describes regions just south of the Arctic Circle, characterized by harsh winters, short summers, and sparse vegetation transitioning between tundra and boreal forest.

The climate is cold but less extreme than true Arctic conditions: sub-Arctic temperatures, the sub-Arctic zones of Canada and Siberia.

Also spelled subarctic.
