strangulations
Killings by constriction
Strangulations is the plural of strangulation, the act of killing or injuring by compressing the throat to cut off air or blood flow.
The term applies both to deliberate violence and to medical emergencies where something becomes constricted, as when a hernia strangulates tissue.
Figuratively, strangulation describes any severe restriction that chokes off vitality or function: The new regulations amounted to the strangulation of small businesses.
