stony-iron
Mixed space rock
A stony-iron is a meteorite composed of roughly equal parts silicate rock and nickel-iron metal—a hybrid between the two main meteorite types.
These are among the rarest meteorites, believed to originate from the boundary zones between the metallic cores and rocky mantles of ancient asteroids: The pallasites are the most prized stony-irons among collectors.
