stinkpots
Sailors' motorboat insult
Stinkpots are containers of foul-smelling substances, historically thrown as weapons in naval warfare to drive enemies from their positions.
The word now applies figuratively to anything that emits noxious odors—a boat with a sputtering engine, a person who reeks: That old stinkpot needs a bath.
A stinkpot is also a musk turtle, named for the smell it releases when threatened.
