standpoints

Where one stands

Standpoints are positions from which things are viewed or considered—literally where one stands, figuratively where one's perspective originates.

Different standpoints yield different conclusions: From an economic standpoint, the merger makes sense.

The word emphasizes that judgments depend on the observer's position: From the standpoint of the victims, justice was never served.
