sponginess
Yielding, absorbent texture
Sponginess is the quality of being soft, porous, and compressible—like a sponge.
It describes textures that yield under pressure and spring back: the sponginess of a well-made cake, the sponginess of wet moss underfoot.
The term can suggest something unpleasantly soft or lacking firmness: The sponginess of the mattress kept me awake.
