spell-checker

Digital proofreading tool

A spell-checker is software that identifies misspelled words in a document and typically suggests corrections.

Built into word processors, email clients, and web browsers, spell-checkers compare words against a dictionary database and flag those that don't match.

The spell-checker caught my typo before I sent the email.

Some spell-checkers also learn from user behavior, adding frequently used words to a custom dictionary.

The term is sometimes written as one word: spellchecker.
