sovereignty movement
Push for autonomy
A sovereignty movement is an organized political effort by a group seeking self-governance or independence from a larger political entity, typically a nation-state.
Such movements may pursue full independence, as with Quebec separatists in Canada or Scottish nationalists in the UK, or they may seek expanded autonomy while remaining within an existing framework.
The term also applies to movements asserting indigenous peoples' rights to self-determination over their traditional lands and governance structures.
