soundboards
Vibration-enhancing wooden panels
Soundboards have two distinct meanings.
In musical instruments, a soundboard is a thin wooden panel that amplifies vibration—the flat surface beneath piano strings or the top of a guitar body.
Separately, a soundboard is software or a device that plays pre-recorded audio clips at the press of a button, used by broadcasters, podcasters, and pranksters: He had a soundboard full of fart noises.
