soprano recorder

High wooden flute

A soprano recorder is the most common size of recorder, a wooden or plastic wind instrument with a whistle mouthpiece and finger holes.

It's the type typically taught in elementary school music classes.

The soprano recorder plays in a high register, sounding an octave above written pitch: Every kid in fourth grade had to learn "Hot Cross Buns" on the soprano recorder.
