thumb hole
Palette's finger slot
A thumb hole is an opening sized for inserting a thumb.
Bowling balls have thumb holes for grip.
Sweaters and athletic wear sometimes feature thumb holes at the cuff, allowing the sleeve to extend over the hand while keeping the thumb free: I love this hoodie—it has thumb holes so my hands stay warm.
