windway
Breath channel inside
The windway is the narrow channel in a wind instrument—such as a recorder, flute, or organ pipe—through which air flows to produce sound.
The player's breath passes through the windway and strikes an edge, creating vibration.
In recorders, the windway is the slit between the mouthpiece and the lip of the instrument.
