safelight

Film-friendly illumination

A safelight is a lamp used in photographic darkrooms that emits light of a wavelength that won't expose light-sensitive materials.

Typically red or amber, it provides enough illumination to work by while leaving film and photographic paper unaffected: She loaded the film onto the reel under the dim glow of the safelight.
