slipped disc
Bulging vertebral cushion
A slipped disc is a spinal condition where the soft cushioning material between vertebrae bulges or ruptures, pressing on nearby nerves.
The disc doesn't actually slip—it herniates or protrudes—but the term persists.
Symptoms include back pain, numbness, or shooting pain down a leg: He's been out of work with a slipped disc.
