single bond
One shared pair
A single bond is a chemical bond in which two atoms share one pair of electrons.
It is the simplest and most common type of covalent bond, represented in structural formulas by a single line between atoms: H—H in hydrogen gas, C—C in ethane.
Single bonds allow free rotation around the bond axis, unlike double or triple bonds.
