nest-building

Twig weaving instinct

Nest-building is the construction of a nest by birds, insects, or other animals for shelter and reproduction.

The term extends to human behavior of preparing a home, especially before a baby arrives: She's been in full nest-building mode, painting the nursery and assembling furniture.

As an adjective, it describes this preparatory instinct: nest-building behavior.
