shearling

Young sheep's pelt

A shearling is a young sheep that has been shorn once, typically around one year old.

More commonly, shearling refers to the hide of such an animal, tanned with the wool left on and used for clothing—especially coats and boots where the fleece provides insulation: a shearling jacket, shearling-lined boots.

The wool side faces inward against the skin.
