sequela
Condition following illness
A sequela is a condition that follows and results from a previous disease, injury, or treatment.
The term is primarily medical: pneumonia may leave pulmonary scarring as a sequela; a stroke may produce paralysis as a sequela.
The plural is sequelae, following Latin: The long-term sequelae of COVID-19 are still being studied.
