post-polio
Following infantile paralysis
Post-polio describes conditions or effects relating to the period after someone has recovered from poliomyelitis.
Most commonly it appears in post-polio syndrome, a condition affecting polio survivors decades after their initial illness, characterized by new muscle weakness, fatigue, and pain.
The term emerged as medical understanding grew that polio's damage could resurface long after the acute infection had passed.
