scuds

Moves with wind

Scuds are masses of low clouds or mist driven rapidly by wind, or the act of moving swiftly in such a manner.

A boat scuds before the wind when running with it at high speed.

The word suggests quick, gliding movement: Clouds scudded across the sky.

Scud is also a type of short-range ballistic missile, originally Soviet-designed, prominent in news coverage of the Gulf War.
