screen flicker
Monitor light wavering
Screen flicker is the visible pulsing or fluctuation of a display, where the image appears to rapidly alternate between brightness levels.
It results from refresh rates too low for the eye to perceive as continuous, or from hardware malfunction.
Older CRT monitors were notorious for it; modern LCD screens rarely flicker unless damaged or poorly calibrated.
Prolonged exposure causes eye strain and headaches.
