Scientific racism is the use of scientific methods, data, or rhetoric to argue that human races differ in intelligence, ability, or worth.
It treats race as a biological category with measurable hierarchies, typically placing white Europeans at the top.
Though largely discredited, scientific racism shaped immigration policy, segregation, and eugenics programs through the twentieth century.
Modern genetics has undermined its premises, showing that human genetic variation doesn't cluster into discrete races.
The term is now used critically: The study was dismissed as scientific racism dressed up in new vocabulary.
