Negroid is an outdated anthropological term for one of three supposed major racial divisions of humanity, referring to peoples of sub-Saharan African descent.
The term belongs to 19th-century racial classification schemes now rejected by mainstream science.
It appears in older academic texts but is considered offensive in contemporary usage—both for its pseudoscientific origins and its use in dehumanizing contexts.
