Dravidian

Southern Indian languages

Dravidian refers to a family of languages spoken primarily in southern India and parts of Sri Lanka, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

The term also describes the peoples who speak these languages and their associated cultures.

Dravidian languages are distinct from the Indo-European languages dominant in northern India: Dravidian linguistic roots predate the arrival of Sanskrit.
