bone setting
Manual skeletal repair
Bone setting is the practice of manually repositioning broken or dislocated bones, traditionally performed by non-physicians using manipulation techniques passed down through apprenticeship.
Before modern orthopedics, bone setters served communities alongside or instead of doctors.
The practice survives in some traditional medicine systems: The village bone setter treated fractures long before the clinic opened.
