rights-of-way

Legal passage entitlements

Rights-of-way is the plural of right-of-way.

A right-of-way is legal permission to pass through property owned by someone else, or the strip of land subject to such permission: The utility company has a right-of-way across the back of our lot.

In traffic, right-of-way is the legal priority to proceed: Pedestrians have the right-of-way in crosswalks.

To yield the right-of-way is to let another go first.
