ridgepole

Topmost roof timber

A ridgepole is the horizontal beam at the peak of a roof where the two sloping sides meet.

It runs the length of the structure and supports the upper ends of the rafters.

In tent construction, the ridgepole is the central pole or bar that holds up the highest point of the canvas: We strung the ridgepole between two trees.
