reweighting

Changing relative significance

Reweighting is adjusting the relative importance assigned to different factors, data points, or considerations.

In statistics, reweighting corrects for sampling bias by giving some observations more influence than others.

More broadly, it describes any recalibration of priorities: The crisis forced a reweighting of our budget toward emergency services.

The process implies that original weights existed and are being revised.
