resurrection plant

Dried then reborn

A resurrection plant is any of several species that can survive extreme dehydration, appearing dead and brown when dry but reviving dramatically when water returns.

The most familiar is *Selaginella lepidophylla*, sold as a curiosity—a tight brown ball that unfurls into green fronds when placed in water.

The resurrection plant on my desk has survived years of neglect.
