reshoeing

Replacing hoof protection

Reshoeing is fitting new horseshoes to a horse, replacing worn or outgrown ones.

Horses typically need reshoeing every six to eight weeks as their hooves grow and shoes wear down.

The term applies to the farrier's work of removing old shoes, trimming hooves, and nailing on fresh ones: The mare is due for reshoeing.
