resensitization

Regaining lost sensitivity

Resensitization is the process of restoring sensitivity after it has been lost or diminished.

In medicine, it often refers to making cells or receptors responsive again to a drug or stimulus they had become tolerant to: After a break from the medication, resensitization occurred and the original dose became effective again.

The term appears in pharmacology, immunology, and psychology, wherever desensitization can be reversed.
