read-a-thon

Literary fundraising event

A read-a-thon is a fundraising event where participants collect pledges based on how much they read over a set period.

Schools commonly use read-a-thons to raise money while encouraging literacy: My daughter read twelve books during the library's read-a-thon.

The format follows other pledge-based "-athon" events like walkathons and dance-a-thons.
