dance-a-thon

Competitive prolonged movement

A dance-a-thon is an endurance event where participants dance continuously for an extended period, often to raise money for charity.

Contestants may dance for hours or even days, with the last person still moving declared the winner.

The format was popularized during the Great Depression as both entertainment and a desperate way to earn prize money: They entered the dance-a-thon hoping to win grocery money.
