railroad flat
Rooms in succession
A railroad flat is an apartment where rooms connect in a single line, each opening directly into the next without a hallway—like cars on a train.
Common in older urban buildings, especially New York City tenements: We lived in a railroad flat where you had to walk through the bedroom to reach the kitchen.
