radial tire

Perpendicular-ply wheel covering

A radial tire has cords running perpendicular to the direction of travel, radiating from the center like spokes.

This construction makes the tire more flexible and durable than older bias-ply designs, which had cords running diagonally.

Radial tires became standard on passenger vehicles by the 1980s: I need to replace all four radials.
