racewalking

Speedy legal ambulation

Racewalking is a competitive sport in which athletes walk as fast as possible while maintaining continuous contact with the ground—one foot must touch before the other lifts.

The supporting leg must also straighten briefly.

These rules produce the distinctive hip-swinging gait of racewalkers.

Olympic distances are 20 and 50 kilometers.
