prefixing

Attaching at start

Prefixing is attaching something to the beginning of something else.

In language, it means adding a prefix to a word: Prefixing "un-" to "happy" creates "unhappy".

More broadly, prefixing applies to anything placed at the front: prefixing a country code to a phone number, prefixing a title to a name.
