antemortem
Prior to dying
Antemortem means before death, the opposite of postmortem.
The term appears primarily in medical and legal contexts: an antemortem injury occurred while the person was still alive, antemortem statements were made before death.
The coroner distinguished antemortem wounds from those inflicted after death.
